About Balboa Park Golf Course - Championship Course
Balboa Park Golf Course opened April 5, 1919 as San Diego's first municipal golf course, starting as nine holes with dirt fairways, built for $1,845. In 1933 Golden Age architect William P. Bell, known for Riviera Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club, expanded it into an 18-hole layout. The Spanish Colonial Revival clubhouse dates to 1934 and became a San Diego City Historic Landmark in 2000. It remains a public course operated by the City of San Diego.
