About Forest Akers West

Michigan State University's West course opened in 1958 on land given by alumnus and longtime trustee Forest H. Akers, whose gift required the grounds also serve as an arboretum. W. Bruce Matthews drew the original layout; MSU alumnus Arthur Hills later led a roughly $1 million redesign in the early 1990s. Open to the public and home to Spartan golf, it was ranked the No. 3 college course in the country by GolfPass in 2024.
