Est. 1924 · Wayne Stiles
Why we love this place
Barre is a Wayne Stiles original tucked into central Vermont's rolling hills, with six Vermont Amateurs on its résumé. It is a thinking golfer's par 71 that rewards placement over power, and the clubhouse crowd makes visitors feel like regulars.

About Country Club of Barre
The Country Club of Barre was founded in 1924, and it began as a nine-hole course laid out by Wayne Stiles, the Boston architect of Stiles & Van Kleek, in one of his early Vermont commissions; the club still displays Stiles's original plan. The course sits in rolling hill country along Drake Road in Plainfield, near the East Montpelier line and a short drive from Barre, the granite city that lent the club its name. It later grew to a full 18 holes and today plays as a par 71 of 6,315 yards from the back tees. Barre has been a steady venue for state championships: the Vermont Golf Association has brought the Vermont Amateur here six times, in 1926, 1951, 1985, 1992, 1999 and 2013. The club welcomes public play alongside its members and hosts outings throughout the season.
