About Eagle Mountain House & Golf Club
Eagle Mountain House opened in Jackson in 1879 as a farmhouse inn for 12 guests, run by Cyrus and Marcia Gale alongside a working farm. Late in the 1800s the family created three golf holes to keep the inn competitive with other Jackson hotels. After fire destroyed the original hotel in 1915, the present building opened on July 4, 1916, and Cyrus sold the property to his son Arthur Gale. In 1931, during the Depression, Arthur turned the farmland and cow pasture in front of the inn into golf links; a larger course added at the time was later lost in a land sale, but the nine-hole course remains. In 1936 the ninth fairway hosted the first organized skiing in the Mount Washington Valley, giving the course a place in the region's ski history. Today the nine-hole course spreads out in front of the historic hotel and its long veranda, and the inn offers golf packages that pair rounds with overnight stays.
