Est. 1903
Why we love this place
We love Green Woods for its quirks and its staying power. A club that has been around since the early 1900s, a rare ten-hole layout and an opening par 4 with genuine personality make it a one-of-a-kind stop. Pines, oaks and a friendly clubhouse patio finish the picture beautifully.

About Green Woods Country Club
Green Woods Country Club traces its beginnings to the first years of the twentieth century; the club gives both 1902 and 1903 as its founding date and marked its 123rd season in 2025, making it one of the older golf clubs in northwest Connecticut. Set on Torringford Street in Winsted, the course has an unusual configuration: the club describes a ten-hole layout played to a par of 71 and calls it one of only three ten-hole courses in the United States. Its rolling terrain weaves through clusters of pine and oak, and the opening hole sets the tone, a short par 4 with a steep, fescue-covered slope on the left and an angled green, partly hidden from the fairway, that tilts hard from front to back, so that on firm days the approach has to land short and run on. Beyond golf, the club operates a banquet hall, restaurant, bar and patio, and it hosts charity tournaments and social events for members and guests.
