Est. 1895 · Willie Norton; later work by Arthur Fenn (1898) and Ralph Barton (1920s)
Why we love this place
Waumbek is White Mountains golf history you can still play: an 1895 resort course with Ralph Barton bones, mountain air and a fresh renovation after years of neglect. Supporting its comeback feels like helping save a piece of New Hampshire's golfing heritage.

About Waumbek Country Club
Waumbek's golf history reaches back to 1895, when the original nine opened in Jefferson as part of one of New Hampshire's grand White Mountain hotel properties, and the course is often described as the state's oldest. Willie Norton is credited with the first layout, with later work by Arthur Fenn around 1898 and Ralph Barton in the 1920s, and Barton's modifications largely shaped the 18 holes that play today at par 71. By the late 2010s reviewers were noting tired conditions, and the course closed after the 2022 season. Under new ownership it was renovated, with two new holes created, and it returned to play in the mid-2020s, while lots overlooking the course were offered for new homes. The revival reconnected Jefferson with one of the oldest golf traditions in New England's mountains.
