Est. 1964 · Geoffrey Cornish (18 holes, 1964; Kelly Nine, 1989)
Why we love this place
We love Bangor Muni for being a true municipal treasure. A Geoffrey Cornish layout that hosted a USGA championship and decades of the Greater Bangor Open, yet still welcomes everyone at a fair price. Twenty-seven holes in the heart of the city, run with real pride.

About Bangor Municipal Golf Course
Bangor Municipal Golf Course opened on July 9, 1964, when golfers hit the first balls on a nine-hole layout designed by architect Geoffrey Cornish. Just over two months later, on September 19, nine more holes were ready, making it a full eighteen. Owned and operated by the City of Bangor, the course quickly became a hub of the region's tournament golf. It was part of the Paul Bunyan Amateur rotation from 1965 until 2006, and from 1967 it hosted the Greater Bangor Open, a professional event that ran for more than five decades and was won by Lanny Wadkins in 1971. In 1978 the course hosted the USGA's U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, and it has also hosted the Maine Amateur, the Maine Open, and the Maine Women's Amateur. The Kelly Nine, named for Austin Kelly, the course's first professional, opened in 1989 and brought the complex to twenty-seven holes. The financially self-sufficient city course still draws tens of thousands of rounds each year.
