Est. 1972 · Geoffrey Cornish; renovated by Robert McNeil (2005)
Why we love this place
Sterling Farms pairs a Geoffrey Cornish routing with the spirit of a course Stamford golfers fought to build. Gently rolling old farmland, sharper bunkering from the 2005 renovation, and solid practice areas make it a Fairfield County staple worth booking early.

About Sterling Farms Golf Course
Sterling Farms was born from Stamford golfers' push for a second municipal course. The Board of Governors of the Hubbard Heights Golf Club formed a committee, chaired by public-golf advocate Frank Daley, to pursue the 144-acre Sterling Farms tract, once an active dairy farm. When the mayor declined to approve state and federal funding that would have covered most of the cost, the committee, aided by State Senator William Hickey, turned to a recent state act that let the city's Board of Representatives create a Golf Authority, and the land was bought through the Open Lands program. Geoffrey Cornish drew the original design in 1969, and the 18-hole course opened in May 1972. Architect Robert McNeil renovated the par-72 layout in 2005. Still owned by the City of Stamford, Sterling Farms remains a busy public course on Newfield Avenue.
